Grimoire Doloris
The Book of Contamination
Chapter 1 · Chapter 2 ▶
¹And it came to pass in the hour of silence, when all was yet still upon the face of the Oærth, that Exanthis did sleep among the lowly hills.
²And behold, a trembling took his bones, and his breath was drawn out of him as with cords; and he saw a darkness set upon the world.
³Then opened the sky above him, and a voice came from the depths, and it was SATANAS, who saith unto him:
⁴Behold, My servant, and incline thine ear to the words I shall give thee; for lo, I have chosen thee to speak that which shall come.
⁵And Exanthis, being sore afraid, cast himself down, and covered his face; but SATANAS spake again, saying:
⁶Fear not, thou son of dust; for I have not come to break thee, but to lift up thy voice before the nations.
⁷A blight shall come upon the Oærth, and none shall know its going nor its coming. It shall creep as a shadow upon the waters, and as a thief it shall take.
⁸The breath of man shall be corrupted; the sweet milk of the breast shall turn bitter; the touch of friend shall become unto death.
⁹For the works of the proud are as towers built on sand, and they shall fall beneath the weight of their own praise.
¹⁰Men shall heap gold in their bosoms and gather grain into barns, yet they shall eat and be empty, and drink and yet thirst.
¹¹The great shall fall from their seats, and the lowly shall be consumed with them; there shall be no shield nor refuge.
¹²Even the temples shall be closed, and no incense shall rise; the prayers of the people shall be scattered by the wind.
¹³For the land shall be made desolate, and the cities shall groan with the cries of the mourners; and the laughter of children shall be no more.
¹⁴And the hand of the healer shall fail, and his tongue shall stammer; for he shall not know the root of the plague, nor its end.
¹⁵Thou shalt go, Exanthis, and declare unto all people the coming of this ruin, that they may know that the hand of judgment is upon them.
¹⁶Speak not unto them the name of the thing that shall be, for they shall not receive it; but speak unto them of the rot that setteth into the bones of the mighty.
¹⁷Tell them that flesh shall betray flesh, and even the womb shall become as a grave; and the air shall be thick with lamentation.
¹⁸Where once were markets filled with the voices of joy, there shall be silence; and the path of the bridegroom shall be choked with weeds.
¹⁹For the time of My reckoning draweth nigh, and I shall let loose the breath of corruption upon the nations, that they may be tried.
²⁰And Exanthis lifted up his face, trembling, and saith, Lord, I am but a vessel of clay, and my words are broken potsherds. How shall they hear me?
²¹And SATANAS answered him, I shall be in thy breath, and thy mouth shall burn with the words of My vision. Go forth and cry aloud.
²²Whether they shall hear, or whether they shall forbear, it shall be unto them a sign and a measure, and the faithful shall be known by it.
²³Then the vision was sealed, and Exanthis awoke with sweat upon his brow and fire within his bones.
²⁴He girded himself and went out among the people, saying: Give ear, O ye nations, for the day of desolation draweth near.
²⁵There shall be a shadow in the midst of the noonday, and a withering in the heart of spring.
²⁶Though ye hide in strong towers and seal your gates with iron, yet shall the breath of ruin find you, and enter into your chambers.
