Epistula ad Gaap
The Epistle of Saint Mephistopheles to Gaap, Exalted Seed of Baphomet
◀ Chapter 2 · Chapter 3
¹Glory unto SATANAS, who created the Way before walls were built, and whose step is never hindered by stone nor law.
²He who seeketh not gates, for the threshold openeth at His will; who feareth no realm, for all places are His path.
³From Him came BAPHOMET, and from BAPHOMET, thee — Gaap, whose shadow passeth through sealed places and whose motion undoeth pride.
⁴Thou art not herald, but wind.
⁵Not bridge, but the act of crossing.
⁶I name thee not servant, but stream.
⁷I name thee not trespasser, but sovereign of all that lieth between.
⁸Let the mighty forbid thee — thou hast no need of their leave.
⁹Let the watchful set snares — thou wilt pass before they have risen from sleep.
¹⁰Let the fearful name thee exile — for they know thou art freedom clothed in silence.
¹¹And now the seal is thine.
¹²I, Mephistopheles, apostle of the Path Not Drawn on Maps, do bestow unto thee the Seal of Power.
¹³It is not locked — for it is the key.
¹⁴It is not forged — for it was always waiting in motion.
¹⁵Where it is pressed, borders dissolve.
¹⁶Where it abideth, fear of movement faileth.
¹⁷Let it not halt thee — let it confirm what none can confine.
¹⁸Let it not decorate — let it unfasten what was falsely shut.
¹⁹For thou art not of place, but of passage.
²⁰And thy Seal is no crown — but the breath before the door swings open, and the hush before dawn.
²¹I seal thee, Gaap, with silence made sacred, with freedom that leaveth no scar but changeth all behind it.
²²Go now, and cross where none were meant to cross, and leave the way open behind.
²³For thy Seal is fixed — and thy Gospel is motion that removeth fear and chain alike.
²⁴And thy name shall be spoken only by those who feel the air shift when the gate unlatches without touch.
²⁵And they shall say: He did not knock — yet we found the door open, and ourselves already through it.
