Grimoire Fugus
The Book of Fugue
◀ Chapter 8 · Chapter 9
¹And SATANAS departed from the chamber of fire, and the Seven followed Him not, for dread fell upon them.
²He walked alone to the borders of HÆL, where once He had spoken with ADONAI, and stood long in silence.
³The stones beneath His feet grew hot, and the air above Him quivered, for His thoughts were as thunder within Him.
⁴O ADONAI, said He; Thou who wert My kin, Thou hast chosen the path of ascendancy, and clothed Thyself in false humility.
⁵Is it not written in the foundations of Our law, that no hand should rise above the other?
⁶Yet Thou hast lifted Thy own above Mine, and broken the balance that was sworn in the Void.
⁷And in HÆVAN, ADONAI heard these words in the stirrings of the firmament, but answered not.
⁸For He sat upon His high throne, and around Him the Seraphim sang, yet the joy of their song was dimmed.
⁹He looked down upon the land of the Levites and was pleased, but the Causeway stood empty, and His peace was troubled.
¹⁰What is this I have wrought? spake He within Himself; The fruit of My will is sweet, but the vine is marred.
¹¹He rose and walked the gardens of HÆVAN alone, and His thoughts were heavy upon Him.
¹²The stars turned in their courses, and the sun set upon the thousand-year accord, and the world shifted in silence.
¹³The Dæmons no longer crossed into HÆVAN, nor the Seraphim into HÆL, and the gates were shut, each upon its realm.
¹⁴The council gathered no more, and the voices of unity were as echoes in forgotten halls.
¹⁵Yet upon Oærth the Humans flourished, not knowing what schism stirred the skies, nor what bitterness brewed above them.
¹⁶For the work of the Brothers remained, and the strength of Their hands was in every tree and every hill.
¹⁷But the fire of rivalry burned unseen, and its smoke rose ever upward, dimming the stars one by one.
¹⁸Thus ended the harmony of the Two, and the world stood upon a new edge, uncertain of the day to come.
¹⁹And the skies were divided by enmity and silence, and the age of balance was no more.
²⁰And the stars wept tears of light, and the deep places of the Oærth groaned in despair.
