Grimoire Iurio
The Book of Law
◀ Chapter 5 · Chapter 6 · Chapter 7 ▶

¹And in the Age of Man, the Hosts watched from afar, and spake not.
²Yet many among the Dæmons stirred within themselves, for they beheld the ways of the Children of Oærth and marvelled.
³They saw how Men strove, how they suffered, how they loved, and how they chose.
But they also saw the burden laid upon them, for the messengers of ADONAI walked among the hills and cities.
And these prophets spake unto the Children, saying: Thus saith ADONAI; and laid laws upon them heavy and manifold.
Then Bezaliel, Hælagion, saw this from the Watchtower of the Deep, and his spirit was troubled within him.
And he called forth the Elders of the Dæmons, even those who had sat upon the First Council.
Unto the Great Hall in HÆL they came, from all four corners of the Kingdom, and from beyond.
Bezaliel stood in the midst of them, and the light of his countenance was as fire and as shadow mingled.
¹⁰He raised not his hand, nor smote the Oærth, nor thundered in speech, but opened his mouth, and they were silent.
¹¹And he began to speak unto them, saying: Hearken unto me, ye Elders, ye who were from the beginning.
¹²Ye were with me when the world was made, and when the Children were formed from the counsel of the Two.
¹³Ye saw the laying of stone and root, and the breathing of the winds, and the setting of the lights above.
¹⁴Now the Age of Men hath dawned, and the Pact restraineth us: to watch and not to rule, to teach by influence alone.
¹⁵Yet a voice from the heights goeth forth, wrapped in mortal flesh, and commandeth the Children as cattle.
¹⁶He who is Our Brother, but not Our kin in this cause, hath sent His heralds among them.
¹⁷These men speak His words, and lay chains upon the wills of mortals, as though they were born to servitude.
¹⁸Is this the path chosen by the council of forty-four? Was this revealed upon the scrolls?
¹⁹Shall the lives of the free-born be written by the hand of One, and executed in fear of damnation?
²⁰Then a murmur rose among the Elders, for many had seen the same, and found it a bitter draught.
²¹Bezaliel lifted up his voice again and said: Let us reason together, not in haste nor hatred, but in light and truth.
²²For I would speak unto you that which hath been scribed upon mine heart, and graven into my mind.
²³Not to rouse rebellion, nor to break the Oath, but to seek its meaning deeper, and to hold fast the justice of Our cause.
²⁴For the age is long, but the memory of wrong is longer, and that which is suffered unjustly cannot stand forever.
²⁵And if We, who are mighty, do not speak, then who among the Hosts shall cry out against what is unfitting?
²⁶Give ear, therefore, ye Ancient Ones, and weigh my words as gold upon the scales of the just.
