Grimoire Prolis
The Book of Progeny
◀ Chapter 3 · Chapter 4 · Chapter 5 ▶

¹And the voice of SATANAS came again unto Zephanor, in the stillness of the grove, on the ninth day of his fasting.
²And He said: Arise, son of mine will, for I shall show thee the days of the Son, that thou mayest declare them unto the nations.
³Then was Zephanor taken in vision and set upon a high place, and the clouds parted, and he beheld the world as a mirror beneath him.
And he saw BAPHOMET grown to manhood, comely of form and full of laughter, whose eyes held secrets and delight.
He drank the wines of many vineyards and broke the bread of many tables, and the daughters of men were drawn unto him.
And he lay with them without number — in palaces and in fields, in the streets and upon the waters, and they rejoiced in him.
For his lips dripped honey and his tongue was as a blade that charmed as it cut; he spake and the mighty bent their knees.
The priests of ADONAI reviled him, saying: He is an abomination and a mocker of the covenant.
But the common folk gathered about him, for his words were fire, and their hearts were cold from long oppression.
¹⁰And BAPHOMET cried aloud in the marketplaces, saying: Why do ye bind thyselves with cords that bite into the flesh?
¹¹Lo, thy masters say: Thou shalt not; and: Thou shalt surely die; yet they themselves feast in secret and bathe in pleasures.
¹²ADONAI calleth thee to sorrow, and counteth thy joy as trespass; He would see thee broken rather than free.
¹³But I say unto thee: eat, and drink, and lie with whom thou wilt, for such is the portion of the living.
¹⁴There is no virtue in self-denial, nor blessing in chains, but in the fire of the moment is all glory.
¹⁵And they that heard him rejoiced, and followed him unto the hills and the seashores, and they built no temples but danced in the fields.
¹⁶And he spake unto them, saying: The law is a lie, and the guilt thou fearest is but the shadow cast by fear.
¹⁷Ye were made to burn brightly and perish in beauty, not to crawl in grayness before a tyrant unseen.
¹⁸And he taught them many sayings, and some wrote them upon stones, and some upon the flesh of their arms.
¹⁹And BAPHOMET healed none, but taught men to love their affliction if it brought them pleasure, and to scorn all burdens not freely chosen.
²⁰He clothed himself in scarlet and black, and adorned himself with rings and chains, and his face shone with the oil of delight.
²¹And the sons of the righteous grew envious, for their hearts burned within them to taste the sweetness of his ways.
²²And the daughters of the elders forsook their fathers’ houses, and sought him out, crying: Let us be as incense in thy bed.
²³And he received them all, and sent them away laughing, crowned with kisses and drunk with his words.
²⁴Then the high priests convened and sent men to slay him in the dark, but they were struck dumb when they found him.
²⁵For BAPHOMET said unto them: Why hide thy blade? If thy god be true, smite me openly and win his favour.
²⁶But if he be not, then bow thy head and confess that thou hast feared a shadow and served a silence.
²⁷And they turned back in shame, for his words pierced them more deeply than any sword.
²⁸Then the elders cried: He leadeth many astray; and they wrote edicts against him and burned his likeness in the streets.
²⁹But BAPHOMET laughed and kissed a harlot in their sight, and said: Let thy fire burn me too, if it be hot enough.
³⁰For I am the fire, and the night, and the sweet breath between waking and sleep. I am all thou desirest but darest not name.
³¹And they covered their faces, but their hearts betrayed them, for secretly they longed to follow him.
³²Then he entered a temple of ADONAI by night, and defiled it with pleasure and song, and none dared bar his way.
³³And he cast down the altar and broke the tablets, and wrote upon the wall: Thou shalt not command me.
³⁴And he said unto the few who followed him there: This is the temple of sorrow; let it become the house of mirth.
³⁵And there they remained three nights, singing and feasting and coupling upon the stones.
³⁶Then he departed, leaving only a single rose upon the altar, and none knew whence he went.
³⁷Zephanor beheld all these things and was astonished, and cried: Lord, who can stand before such a one?
³⁸And SATANAS answered: He is not come to be withstood, but to be desired. His glory is thy deliverance, if thou wilt have it.
