The Book of Progeny
◀ Chapter 6 · Chapter 7

¹And the voice of SATANAS came once more unto Zephanor in the night, and a great dread fell upon him.
²For the skies above were as bronze, and the stars were sealed as with wax, and no breath moved the trees.
³And Zephanor fell to his face and cried aloud: Speak, Lord of the Abyss, for thy servant heareth!
And SATANAS spake unto him in a voice that burned yet soothed, saying: Behold, the seed of My Son shall be mighty upon the Oærth.
He shall beget sons upon many women, and from his loins shall come rulers, deceivers, magicians, and breakers of chains.
And I shall set upon each a name, and with the name, power; and with the power, purpose.
Thou shalt write their names, O Zephanor, and proclaim them unto the generations that follow, for these are the Sons of Progeny.
Lo, the first is Bæl, who shall reign in fire and gold, and men shall kneel at the mere sound of his trumpet.

⁷⁶They shall whisper in courts and walk among the poor; they shall build temples and burn them in the same breath.
⁷⁷Each shall reign for a season, but their dominion shall pass from father to son, from name to name.
⁷⁸The world shall not know peace while their breath endures, nor shall it return to innocence until the fire consumes them.
⁷⁹Go now, Zephanor, saith SATANAS; and cry aloud these names in the marketplaces and the quiet places alike.
⁸⁰Let none say he was not warned, nor that he heard only the voice of a man.
⁸¹For My voice is in thee, and thy words shall not fall to the ground void, but shall take root in the bones of the Oærth.
⁸²And Zephanor wept bitterly, for he beheld the names written in flame before him, and the world already bowed.
