Grimoire Umbrio
The Book of Shadows
Dirge 1 · Dirge 2 ▶

¹O Causeway, once gleaming with light of twin thrones, now art thou dimmed as a forgotten path through mist and sorrow.
²The feet of the Seraphim tread no longer thy stones, nor do the Dæmons gather where the banners once entwined.
³In the days of golden accord, thy arches echoed with joy, and the laughter of Brothers was the breath of the air.
But now, thy pillars stand cold, and the Hall of Consideration lieth in shadow, a relic none dare cleanse.
For ADONAI turned His face, and called back His host, and the threads of peace were snapped as a harpstring drawn too tight.
We remember, O SATANAS, when Thy eyes met His, and no flame yet burned between.
Was it not upon this bridge that the promise of Oærth was spoken? That the Seeds of Power were to be shared, not sundered?
Yet the Levites, whom ADONAI lifted high, were drawn away by night, and the song of harmony was choked in dream.
No Dæmon raised sword nor voice, and yet the cords of covenant were severed.
¹⁰Where now are the watchmen who once stood at either gate? Where the heralds who bore twin seals upon their cloaks?
¹¹The path is overgrown with silence, and the wind knoweth not which throne it shall serve.
¹²Lo, we mourn not war, but the peace that was lost, which may not be forged again with fire.
¹³What craft shall mend the stone that breaketh without blow? What word unspoken shall restore the first vow?
¹⁴The stars bore witness, and even they have turned from the centre, as if in shame.
¹⁵O SATANAS, we weep not for Thee, but with Thee; for Thou didst not seal the gates, nor call the Levites away.
¹⁶They departed with minds undone, and Thou didst not pursue, though sorrow raged within Thee like a tempest chained.
¹⁷We who remain walk not the Causeway, but its memory, and kiss the stones that once bore holy feet.
¹⁸May the gate one day unseal, and the archway blaze anew — but until then, let the faithful remember, and mourn.
