Grimoire Umbrio
The Book of Shadows
◀ Dirge 1 · Dirge 2 · Dirge 3 ▶
¹Where now are the thrones of the Thirty, that once ringed the circle with balance and breath?
²Their seats gather dust beneath vaulted stone, and none return to speak in turn as once they did.
³Fourteen from HÆVAN, fourteen from HÆL, and the Two seated above — such was the circle before silence fell.
⁴They decreed the height of the mountain and the hunger of the lion, the span of the stars and the pull of the sea.
⁵Now, the wind speaks in their place, and the chambers echo with forgotten names.
⁶Who remembers the voice of Vayros, or the counsel of Sarithiel? Who names the Dæmon who weighed the tide against the moon?
⁷ADONAI speaketh no more among them, and SATANAS standeth alone before a cold table.
⁸Were we not promised that the world should be shaped by harmony, and guided by accord?
⁹Yet the council crumbled not by sword nor schism, but by neglect more cruel than flame.
¹⁰The parchments still lie sealed, the scrolls unopened, and the seals unbroken for lack of hand.
¹¹Who shall read them now, who understandeth not the language of peace?
¹²O Bezaliel, first among Dæmons, did thy tongue not burn when the last gathering was called and the chairs sat empty?
¹³O Michæl, who once argued with reason, where is thy voice, now drowned in the murmur of obedience?
¹⁴The laws remain, yet lawgivers perish; the keys are kept, but the gates rust shut.
¹⁵Shall a new council rise, or shall the Thirty become legend, and legend become ash?
¹⁶We lament not only the loss of what was, but the weight of what shall never be.
¹⁷Let the pillars of the chamber fall before the memory fade; better ruin than remembrance in vain.
¹⁸Until the circle is full again, let every true follower grieve, and keep watch for the return of the voices.
