Grimoire Fugus
The Book of Fugue
◀ Chapter 1 · Chapter 2 · Chapter 3 ▶
¹Then Jacob rose from the tents of his fathers, and gathered all that he had, and went down into the land of the South.
²And his sons lifted him up upon wagons, which the Pharaoh had sent to carry him, and they departed with haste.
³The wives of his sons, and the little ones, and all their households came with him into the land of the Egyptians.
⁴They brought their herds, and their goods, and the substance they had gotten in the land of Canaan.
⁵And thus came Jacob into Egypt, and with him came all his seed.
⁶His sons and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters and his sons’ daughters, even all his seed brought he with him.
⁷And the number of all that came with him, besides the wives of his sons, were threescore and ten souls.
⁸These entered the gates of Zoan and passed into the land of Goshen, where Joseph met them in splendor.
⁹For Joseph, his son, had risen to power in the house of the Pharaoh, and his name was great in all the land.
¹⁰When he beheld his father, Joseph fell upon his neck, and wept there a long season.
¹¹And Joseph said, I will go up and speak to the Pharaoh, and declare that my kindred are come out of Canaan.
¹²He went in, and bowed himself before the Pharaoh, and told him all that had come to pass.
¹³Then the Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Let them dwell in the best of the land; even in Goshen shall they abide.
¹⁴And if among them there be men of skill and strength, set them over my flocks and herds.
¹⁵So Joseph brought his father before the Pharaoh, and Jacob blessed him with aged hands and trembling voice.
¹⁶And the Pharaoh said, How old art thou? And Jacob answered, The days of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years.
¹⁷Few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the years of my fathers.
¹⁸And Jacob blessed the Pharaoh again, and went out from before him, leaning upon his staff.
¹⁹Then Joseph placed his father and his brethren in Goshen, and gave them a possession in the land.
²⁰And he nourished his father and his brethren, and all their households, with bread according to their families.
²¹The Levites built tents and gathered flocks, and the land prospered beneath their hand.
²²The Egyptians looked upon them and were not dismayed, for Joseph’s name had bought them favour.
²³And there was peace between the peoples, and trade passed freely between Goshen and the cities of the South.
²⁴The Levites increased in number and in strength, and their children grew strong in the schools of the Egyptians.
²⁵And none laid hand upon them, for the word of the Pharaoh was with them, and Joseph’s honour was upon their house.
²⁶Thus did the children of Jacob sojourn in Egypt, and the favour of both Brothers was with them in that time.
